Part one: For the motion. Carotid disease is rarely responsible for stroke after coronary bypass surgery.

چکیده
The coronary and extracranial carotid vascular beds are often simultaneously affected by significant atherosclerotic disease, and stroke is one of the potential major complications of coronary artery surgery. As a result, there is no shortage of reports in the vascular surgery literature describing simultaneous coronary and carotid artery revascularizations. Generally these reports have found this combination of operations safe, but have stopped short of proving that it is necessary. Intuitively, simultaneous carotid endarterectomy and coronary artery bypass surgery could be justified if the majority of perioperative strokes were the result of a significant carotid stenosis, either directly or indirectly. At first glance this appears to be a fairly straight forward issue, however much of the evidence on both sides of the argument is circumstantial. One significant problem in analyzing outcome by choice of treatment in patients presenting with both coronary and carotid disease is the multiple potential causes of stroke in coronary bypass patients which include hemorrhage, and atheroemboli from aortic atheromas during clamping. But this controversial subject is now open to discussion and our

تاثیر انسداد شریان کاروتید داخلی (ICA) در میزان مرگ ومیر وعوارض بیماران تحت عمل جراحی گرافت شریان کرونری(CABG)
Background and Aim: Stroke is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass (CABG) surgery. There are various mechanisms that can cause prioperative strokes in patients undergoing CABG other than Carotid Artery disease. The goal of this study is to evaluate whether the presence of stenosis internal carotid artery (ICA) influences prioperative stroke...
متن کاملPrevalence of carotid arterial diseases in patients undergoing CABG operations
Introduction: Prevalence of stroke following coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is % 2.1-5.2 and associated with high mortality. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of carotid artery disease in patients undergoing CABG surgery. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in the years 2010-2011 on 192 patients who underwent open heart surgery (CABG) in...
متن کاملIndividual-Social-Predictive Factors in Performing Daily Life Activities in Obese and Overweight Patients after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
Aims: Obese or overweight people are more likely to have complications after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Performing this surgery in these patients affects the patient's postoperative ability to perform Activity Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily living (IADL). The aim of this study was to determine the predictive factors for performing activities in overwei...
متن کاملCerebrovascular disease and functional outcome after coronary artery bypass surgery.
A series of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery was studied prospectively to see if angiographic evidence of cerebrovascular disease proved predictive of the incidence of neuropsychological deficit 8 days or 8 weeks after surgery. In 47 patients, intravenous digital subtraction angiography was carried out preoperatively to assess the presence and severity of atheromatous changes ...
متن کاملObstructive carotid and/or intracranial artery disease rarely affects the incidence of haemodynamic ischaemic stroke during cardiac surgery: a study on brain perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography with acetazolamide.
OBJECTIVES Ischaemic stroke is a major complication of cardiac surgery. The optimal strategies for operating on patients with obstructive carotid and/or intracranial artery disease (CIAD) are controversial. We aimed to clarify whether single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with acetazolamide, to quantify the cerebral perfusion reserve, could predict the risk of haemodynamic ischaemi...
